Yamaha Motorcycles

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. was founded in 1955. Utilising expertise in small engines, fibreglass-reinforced plastics and electronic control technologies Yamaha have successfully developed a variety of products including motorcycles, scooters, electrically assisted bicycles, boats, personal watercraft, outboard motors, all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles, surface mounters and other power products. In fiscal 2009 70.8% of sales came from Motorcycles.

In 2009 motorcycle sales reached 5,841,000 units which is estimated to be 11.8% of global motorcycle sales.

Suzuki Motorcycles

Suzuki Motor Corporation was first established as Suzuki Loom Manufacturing Co. in 1920. Suzuki entered the motorcycle business in 1952 and the automobile business in 1955. Suzuki Motor Corporation designs and manufactures passenger cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, all terrain vehicles (ATVs), outboard motors, and other products. In fiscal 2010 the automobile division represented 86.2% of sales and motorcycles 10.6%.

In 2009 motorcycle sales reached 3,017,000 units which is estimated to be 6.1% of global motorcycle sales.

Kawasaki Motorcycles

Founded in 1878, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (KHI) manufactures ships, rolling stock, aircraft and jet engines, gas turbine power generators, refuse incinerators, industrial plants, steel structures, and a wide range of manufacturing equipment and systems. KHI also produces consumer products such as motorcycles, ATVs, U/Vs, RUVs and Jet Ski® watercraft. The consumer products division on average accounted for 26.5% of sales in the 10 years between 2000 and 2009. This fell to 18.4% in fiscal 2010.
